A link that opens a WhatsApp chat with you

Type your number and, if you like, the first message a customer should send. You get a wa.me link for your Instagram bio, Google Maps listing or ads, and a QR code for your shop. Indian numbers work with or without +91.

Type your number, and the code for your chat link appears here.

Shape

Corners

A WhatsApp link is one way to reach you. It cannot also hold your phone number, email, menu and other links.

How to make it

  1. 01

    Type your WhatsApp number

A 10 digit Indian mobile number is enough; we add 91 for you. For a number outside India, start with + and the country code.

  2. 02

    Write the first message

Optional, and worth it. "Hi, I want to order" or "Hi, I saw your Instagram" tells you where the customer came from and what they want before you reply.

  3. 03

Copy the link or download the code

Tap Test the link to open it in WhatsApp yourself. Then paste it wherever customers find you, or print the code for your counter and packaging.

What a wa.me link does

wa.me is WhatsApp's own click to chat address. Opened on a phone, it starts a chat with your number in the WhatsApp app. Opened on a computer, it offers WhatsApp Web. The customer does not have to save your number first, which is the step most people never get round to.

It works for WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business alike, and the link keeps working for as long as the number is on WhatsApp.

Write a first message that helps you reply

The message is typed into the chat box for the customer, who can change it before sending. Use it to sort chats before you read them: one link for your Instagram bio saying "Hi, I saw you on Instagram", another on your packaging saying "Hi, I want to reorder". Keep it to a sentence.

Where to put it

In your Instagram and Facebook bio, as the website on your Google Maps listing, on ads, on product packaging and on your visiting card as a QR code. Anywhere a customer might want to ask you something right now.

Questions

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. A wa.me link opens a chat with any number that is on WhatsApp, whether it uses WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business.

Does the customer need my number saved?

No. That is the point of the link. It opens a chat with you straight away, without saving a contact first.

Will the link expire?

No. It is WhatsApp's own address format, not ours. It works for as long as the number is registered on WhatsApp.

Can I change the message later?

The message is part of the link, so a new message means a new link. Links you have already shared keep the old message.

Is my number sent to you?

No. The link and the code are made in your browser, on your own device. We count how often the tool is used, and that is all.

WhatsApp, and everything else, behind one link

A Cardless page puts a WhatsApp button next to your phone number, email, menu and links, so one link in your bio answers every way a customer wants to reach you. Change it whenever you like. There is nothing to pay while we are in pre-release.
