Link in bio for small businesses selling on Instagram

If you sell through Instagram and WhatsApp, your link in bio is your shop window. What to put on it, how to take orders, and what a link page cannot do.

A lot of small businesses in India sell entirely through Instagram. Clothes, jewellery, cakes, candles, skincare, plants, art. The posts bring people in, and the sale happens on WhatsApp or through a payment link.

For a business like that, the link in your bio does a specific job. It is where a stranger who liked one reel goes to answer three questions: what do you sell, how much is it, and how do I order. This guide is about building that page well, and being honest about what a link page does not do.

What your page needs to answer

What do you sell?

One line under your name. "Handmade silver jewellery, shipped across India" says more than a logo and a tagline. Then photos of the products, because people decide with their eyes.

How much is it?

The question every Instagram seller gets a hundred times a day: "Price?" Answer it on the page. A price list, a catalogue link, or photos with prices written on them. Every customer who finds the price on the page is one fewer message you have to answer.

How do I order?

Make the next step obvious. For most Instagram sellers, it is one of three:

  • Message on WhatsApp. The most common in India. Use a chat link so the customer lands straight in a conversation with you.
  • A form. Name, phone number and what they want, so you can reply in your own time.
  • Your own website or marketplace listing. If you already sell on one, link to it.

Pick the one you actually want to handle, and put it at the top.

Can I trust you?

New customers worry about paying someone they found on Instagram. Help them: link your Google reviews if you have them, add customer photos, and say clearly how shipping and returns work.

A page layout that works

  1. Order on WhatsApp, at the top.
  2. New this week, a link or photos that change with each drop.
  3. Price list or catalogue.
  4. Shipping, payment and returns, in plain words.
  5. Reviews or customer photos.
  6. Social icons for your other platforms, in a row at the top or bottom.

Fewer is better. If a link has not been tapped in a month, it is in the way. For more examples by type of account, see what to put in your link in bio.

Running drops and sales

Instagram sellers often work in drops: a new collection on Friday, a festival sale for a week. Your page should follow.

Two habits help. Put the newest drop at the top, and take it down when it sells out, so customers never land on something they cannot buy. And plan links in advance, so the Diwali sale link appears on the morning it starts and disappears when it ends, without you remembering to do either.

Know which posts bring buyers

You probably post in several places: Instagram, a WhatsApp status, a poster at a flea market stall, a flyer in every parcel. It helps to know which of those actually brings people to your page.

The simple way is a different link for each place. If your page can tell "came from the flyer in the parcel" apart from "came from Instagram", you know where to spend your effort next month.

What a link page does not do

Be clear about this before you choose a tool.

A link page is not an online shop. On Cardless Club, there is no cart, no checkout and no payment collection on your page. Customers order the way they already do with you, on WhatsApp, by form, or through a store you link to.

For many small sellers that is the right shape, because the conversation on WhatsApp is part of how they sell. If you need a cart, stock tracking and payments in one place, you need a store builder or a marketplace, and your link page can point to it.

How a Cardless Club page fits

Everything in this guide works on the free plan, which is free while we are in pre-release:

  • As many links as you want, with photos and text, in the order you choose.
  • A sign-up box that collects an email address, and if you want, a phone number and a message about what they need. Each enquiry shows up in your dashboard with a one-tap button to reply on WhatsApp.
  • Scheduled links that show up on a date you choose and go away on their own, for drops and sales.
  • A WhatsApp icon in your social row, along with Instagram, YouTube and others.
  • Campaign names on a link. Add ?campaign= and a name of your own to your page address, for example cardless.club/yourshop?campaign=parcel-flyer, and visits through it get their own line in your numbers.
  • Counts of which links people tap, and which ones nobody is tapping.
  • A note when a link breaks, so a dead catalogue link does not cost you a week of orders before you notice.

Paid plans add more looks with your own colours, removing our mark, more pages, longer history, and downloading the enquiries you have collected. See pricing for the details.

If you are moving from Linktree, you can bring your links across without retyping them. If you sell from a physical counter as well, Cardless Reviews helps you collect Google reviews there.

Questions

Can customers pay on my link page?

Not on Cardless Club. You can link to a payment page or a store you already use, but the page itself does not take payments.

Should I put prices on my page?

Usually yes. It saves you answering "price?" in your messages, and it filters out people who were never going to buy.

Can I see who filled in my form?

Yes. Every enquiry from your sign-up box is listed in your dashboard. Saving them as a spreadsheet is part of the paid plans.

What address will my page have?

cardless.club/ followed by the name you choose. Pick something close to your Instagram name so customers recognise it.

Is a link page better than Instagram's five bio links?

For a seller whose products change every week, usually yes, because you manage it in one place and it works outside Instagram too. If your links rarely change, Instagram's own links may be enough. Our guide to multiple links in your Instagram bio explains the difference.
