An email signature that looks right in every inbox

Fill in your details and copy the signature into Gmail, Outlook or Apple Mail. It is built the way email programs need, so it keeps its layout when people reply and forward.

Type your name, and your signature appears here.

The preview is on white, as most people read email.

A signature is pasted into each email program, so a new number or job means updating it everywhere you pasted it.

How to make it

  1. 01

    Fill in your details

Your name and one way to reach you are enough. A photo is optional and must already be online, at an address starting with https.

  2. 02

    Copy the signature

Tap Copy signature. It copies the formatted version, ready to paste, with a plain text one alongside for programs that want it.

  3. 03

Paste it into your email settings

Open the signature settings in Gmail, Outlook or Apple Mail, paste, and save. The steps for each are below.

Adding it in Gmail

On a computer, open Gmail, click the gear, then See all settings. On the General tab, scroll to Signature, click Create new, give it a name and paste into the box. Choose it as the default for new emails and replies, then click Save Changes at the very bottom of the page.

The Gmail app on a phone keeps its own plain text signature. Set it in the app's settings for that account.

Adding it in Outlook and Apple Mail

In Outlook on the web, open Settings, then Mail, then Compose and reply, and paste into the signature box. In the Outlook app on Windows, it is under File, Options, Mail, Signatures.

In Apple Mail, open Settings, then Signatures, pick the account, click the plus and paste. Untick Always match my default message font, or Mail will strip the formatting.

Keep it short

Name, role, one number, one email and one link is the signature people actually use. Many email programs hide images until the reader allows them, so the signature should still make sense without the photo. A link to one page that holds everything else keeps it short without leaving anything out.

Questions

Does it work in Gmail on my phone?

The Gmail app uses its own plain text signature, separate from the one on the computer. Set the formatted signature on a computer, and type a short one in the app's settings.

Why is my photo not showing?

The photo has to be online at a public address starting with https, and many email programs hide images until the reader allows them. Check the address opens in a private browser window.

Can I use my company logo instead of a photo?

Yes. Paste the address of a square logo image that is already online, in the same photo field.

Will the signature carry any branding of yours?

No. The signature holds only what you type. If you add your Cardless page, that link is yours.

Is what I type sent to you?

No. The signature is made in your browser, on your own device. We count how often the tool is used, and that is all.

A signature that never goes out of date

Add your Cardless page to the signature. Put your links, number and work on it, change them whenever you like, and every email you have ever sent points at the latest version. There is nothing to pay while we are in pre-release.
