How to share your contact on WhatsApp like a business card

Four ways to send your details on WhatsApp so the other person can save them in one tap, from a contact card to a chat link, and what each one misses.

In India, most first meetings end the same way: "Send me your details on WhatsApp." What arrives next decides whether you are saved as "Priya Photographer Bandra" or lost in a chat with a hundred other people.

There are four common ways to send your details on WhatsApp. They are not equally good. This guide goes through each one, what it does well, and what it leaves out, so you can choose.

1. Send yourself as a WhatsApp contact

WhatsApp lets you attach a contact from your phone's address book to a chat. The other person sees a contact bubble and can tap to add it.

Good: One tap to save. Works with every WhatsApp user. Costs nothing.

Missing: Only what is in your own address book entry, which for most people is a name and a number. No links, no work samples, no address. It also sends whatever you saved yourself as, which is sometimes just "Me".

Tip: Edit your own contact on your phone first. Add your full name, your business name, your email and your website, so the card you send carries them.

2. Send an image of your visiting card

A photo or designed graphic of your card.

Good: Looks professional. Easy to make.

Missing: Almost everything that matters. Nobody can tap a number in an image, so they have to type it. It cannot be updated. WhatsApp compresses it, and small text blurs. Search inside WhatsApp does not find the words in it.

Use it alongside something else, never on its own.

3. Send a chat link

WhatsApp's click-to-chat links open a chat with you directly. The address is wa.me/ followed by your full number with the country code and no plus sign, spaces, dashes or leading zero. For an Indian number, that means starting with 91.

Good: One tap opens a chat with you. Useful on posters, on Instagram and in email signatures, where someone wants to message you without saving you first.

Missing: It does not save you as a contact. It starts a conversation and nothing more.

4. Send one link to a page with everything

A web page at an address like cardless.club/yourname that holds your name, what you do, your phone, email and address, your links, and a button that saves all of it to the visitor's phone.

Good: One message holds everything. The person can save you, message you, see your work and visit your website from the same place. If your number or job changes, you change the page, and every link you ever sent shows the new version. WhatsApp shows a preview with your name and photo when you send it.

Missing: Someone has to tap the link and then tap Save. Two taps rather than one.

Which to use

You want them to Send
Save your number, and nothing else matters Your WhatsApp contact, after editing it
Message you without saving you A chat link
Save you and see your work, prices or website A page link
Remember what your card looked like An image, plus one of the above

Most people should send a page link, followed by a contact bubble if the other person prefers it. The page does the job of the card. The bubble is a shortcut for people who only want the number.

What to put on the page

If you go with a page, these are what someone sending "Send me your details" usually wants:

  1. Your name and what you do, in one line. "Wedding photographer, Pune" is better than a job title.
  2. A Save to contacts button. This is the one that makes it a business card rather than a website.
  3. WhatsApp, call and email, as separate buttons or icons.
  4. Your work. Photos, a portfolio link, a menu, a price list.
  5. Where to find you. Your address, or the areas you cover.
  6. Your reviews, if you have good ones on Google.

Keep it short. This is the page someone opens while standing in a queue.

Make it travel beyond WhatsApp

The same link works in your Instagram bio, your email signature, on the back of a paper card as a QR code, and on a poster at your shop. When you share one link everywhere, every place stays correct when something changes.

If you hand over details in person a lot, a card that opens your page when someone holds their phone to it saves the "Send me your details" step entirely. We explain how those work in what is an NFC business card.

How Cardless Club does this

A Cardless Club page is free while we are in pre-release. It includes everything in the list above:

  • Your name, photo and a line about what you do.
  • A contact section with your phone, email and address, and a Save to contacts button that adds you to the visitor's phone.
  • A WhatsApp icon in your social row, alongside up to around twenty other platforms.
  • Photos, links and text for your work.
  • A sign-up box, so someone who is not ready to call can leave their number and a note. Each one appears in your dashboard with a button to reply on WhatsApp.
  • A share button and a QR button on the page itself, so a visitor can pass it on, or you can show the code from your own phone.

Questions

Can I send a contact card that includes my website?

Yes, if you add the website to your own contact entry on your phone before sending it. Many people never fill that field in.

Does a page link work for people without internet?

No. Opening any web page needs a connection. A contact bubble saved earlier works offline.

Will my page show a preview in WhatsApp?

Usually, yes. WhatsApp fetches a title, description and image from the page. On a Cardless Club page those come from your name, your description and an image generated in your page's colours, and you can set your own.

Is it safe to put my phone number on a public page?

It is as public as a printed visiting card. If you would rather not, leave the number off and use a sign-up box instead, so people leave theirs and you decide who to call.

Can I share my page from WhatsApp Business?

Yes. A page is a normal web address, so it works in WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business alike, in chats, status updates and your business profile's website field.
